PRESS RELEASE: 30/05/2009

Answering whether or not she thinks she is still in the race McKenna said “All the volunteers who are helping me with my campaign – some of whom are seasoned campaigners who have campaigned in previous elections for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael – believe that this poll doesn’t accurately reflect reality and we are still fighting for that third seat.

Commenting on the latest Irish Times mrbi poll itself McKenna said “I don’t think the polls accurately reflect the support there is for independent candidates nor the reaction we’re getting out on the campaign trail. This could be due to the fact that independent candidates tend to have low budget campaigns, so there isn’t that much hype around them.

She continued, “There is still a large amount of people undecided and a fair few days left to campaign and what is clearly obvious is that the last seat will be won on transfers. As I am not attached to a party I think that I will benefit more than any of the other candidates in the race from the transfers. Currently people from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are supporting my campaign. I believe this reflects the range of people who will not only vote for me, but also give me their second and third preferences.
